Schizophrenia and coagulation

This aricle from 2016 reports the assosciation between a hypercoagulable state and schizophrenia. It describes changes in protein C as well as t-pa and reviews how their activity influences pathogenesis and comorbidity. The authors analyze how activity of tPA and protein S is influenced by biochemical abnormalities found in schizophrenia. Future directions for research, such as studies on animal models and on therapeutic approaches for schizophrenia aiming at increasing tPA and protein S activity are discussed.
