The difficulties behind achieving parity of esteem

In this editorial that was published in the BMJ in 2014, the authors describe how parity of esteem means different things to different people and how this may make it difficult to achieve. They also briefly describe the historical context of parity, from the 1959 Mental Health Act over the enshrinement in US law in 2006 to the political discussions in the 2010s.
